Environment

Our Philosophy

EnvironmentWe are surrounded by stunning countryside and nestled between Exmoor national park and the Quantock Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty.

We are working with Green Tourism and are hoping to achieve a Gold Award. We plant a native, hardwood tree for every booking made. We work with a local tree planting service on the Quantock Hills.

Our philosophy is to make the farm, Treehouse and cottage as eco friendly as possible. We recognise we have a long way to go to be totally eco but each year we try to reduce our carbon footprint and increase our biodiversity.

Energy

. We have tried to insulate the properties as much as possible. We also have a wood burning stove in each property and all our wood is seasoned and sustainably sourced.

Transport

We are very keen to promote the use of bikes and public transport for holidays with us. We realise that it is hard to access us without a car, but the train system is very good to Taunton and if you have bought your own bikes we will pay for a taxi to Halse. We are waiting for an electric taxi to become available! We can also arrange for bike hire.

Supporting Local Businesses

We are very keen on encouraging our visitors to support the many and varied local businesses we have in the local area. We buy all the hamper products from local farm shops and the excellent Taunton farmers market.

We have great local pubs and cafes and encourage as much support as we can. We hope that guests will support the local food and drink businesses as much as possible.

Recycling

We recycle pretty much everything and ask our guest to as well. We provide compostable bags and easy to use recycling bags.

Heating

EnvironmentAlthough we realise that central heating is a must, we do ask that visitors in the winter turn down the radiators instead of leaving them on full with the windows wide open! Not good for our poor planet!

Hot Tub

The hot tub at the Treehouse is run on bromine. It  is however a delicate system and does not respond well to perfumes, sun creams and make up etc. We ask kindly that if guests are wearing such creams, sprays etc that they kindly bath before entering the tub and also that swimming costumes are only rinsed not washed in detergents during your stay. If the hot tub goes cloudy, it means that it has had contact with sprays, perfumes etc and if we have to empty and replace it may lead to a lack of time for guests in the tub, we also may have to ask for a further paymentto cover this.

Biodiversity

We are trying to encourage the biodiversity of local fauna and wildlife. As a result we allow the summer grasses and hedgerows to flourish.
