The West Somerset Steam Railway is Somerset’s top tourist attraction and we are lucky enough for it to be only two miles from Lavender Barn, The Treehouse, Cherry Tree Farmhouse, Cornflower Cottage and The Apple Treehouse and right next to The Railway Carriage and Railway Cottage. THE WEST SOMERSET STEAM RAILWAY LINE
Our Railway, a true country branch line of the old Great Western Railway is full of fascination whether you are looking for a nostalgic ride back in time through lovely countryside or to study the railway and industrial heritage which our line preserves..
The historic steam locomotives, coaches and wagons, and the buildings of our ten unique stations linked by a twenty mile scenic journey will repay hours of exploration. The surrounding countryside is as varied as it is beautiful.
The gently rolling Quantock hills and distant Exmoor, unspoilt villages and farms nestling in leafy lanes, the cliffs and coast of the Bristol Channel with views of distant South-Wales, confident Church Towers, Dunster’s imposing Castle and Minehead’s seaside charm are all waiting to be discovered.
It is possible to buy day tickets ( children under 5 are free ) or a wonderful freedom of the line pass valid for a week.
We have a multitude of tickets available including our Single tickets (from one station to another), Return tickets (from one station to another and back), Rover tickets which give you unlimited travel between all of our stations for one day, and our new ticket which was introduced in 2016, the weekly Freedom of the Line ticket which allows you unlimited travel for up to 7 consecutive days across the railway (T’s and C’s apply). All the aforementioned tickets are available to purchase on the day from the booking office, or on the train from the Ticket Inspectors (cash only). Rover tickets and Freedom of the Line tickets can be purchased in advance through our website where savings can be made on specific tickets.
