The things our guests at The Railway Carriage are saying
10/10 The little touches like the eggs and cider on arrival were much appreciated. The carriage had everything we needed and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Thank you. Prince January 2019
We enjoyed a day in Dunster. Although we didn’t tour inside the castle we found enough to explore in the grounds, the crypt and the water mill and of course the national trust cafe and shop! The village itself was lovely and we had a good Sunday roast in the Stags Head. The staff were lovely. We also spent a morning fossil hunting on kilve beach which was great fun.
10/10 All really well equipped. Kids loved the carriage and were excited by it all.. biscuits lovely touch. Lovely to have the welcome basket and milk in the fridge.Warm and cosy and had exactly what we needed. Great to have so much info in the folder rather than the usual pile leaflets.. we had a great morning at the beach. Thank you I think we'll be back when the trains are running. The beach at blue anchor was great..
Dunster castle and Mill fantastic.. - Russell January 2019
10/10 We really appreciated all the thoughtful touches in the carriage, including the basket of toys & books for little ones, the lovely hot tub for the tired parents, and the overall cleanliness and airy feel of the place. We can't think of anything to improve...we had a great time and our boys didnt' really notice that the trains aren't running this time of year. :) We'll be back when they do! we had two days and both were outstanding. First we went to Holnicote Estate and walked the Selworthy & Bury Castle circular trail, followed by tea at the Periwinkle Cottage Team Room - perfect. Second day was spent in Dunster, touring the castle and gardens, and having the perfect pub experience at Luttrell Arms. LeGree - November 2018
10/10 Minehead beach is beautiful, me and my son were the only 2 on it.
Sand for miles. Britton - November 2018
10/10 We loved the warm welcome after a long drive, and how clean and homely the railway carriage is. Very thorough local guide was great, and we enjoyed the hot tub and watching the steam trains a lot. Comfortable bed, and we'll equipped kitchen meant we could relax even more. Walsh - October 2018
10/10 Train passing carriage was fantastic. Coles - September 2018
10/10 Thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Herd - August 2019
9/10 We loved the location. The boys loved waving to the train drivers. It was cozy and relaxing. Williams - August 2018
10/10 If it aint broke...dont fix it. Ideal as it is. Bhunnoo - June 2018
9/10 Our little boy (4) absolutely loved the Railway Carriage and it's close proximity to the train line outside. The carriage had everything we needed for our weekend stay, and the hot tub was the icing on the cake. It is situated in a fantastic location and a perfect family getaway. Our son is already asking to go back soon!
A trip on the West Somerset Railway to Minehead is a must for all the family. Also, a visit to the beautiful Hestercombe Gardens.
9/10 The railway doesn’t get boring and the carriage has all you need for a relaxing weekend. The crows took some getting used to.
Local walking is great from the Carriage and the West Somerset Railway is a nice way to see the countryside. - April 2018
Loved the accommodation and it’s location, it’s warm, quiet and very comfy.
The only thing I would ‘improve’ would be putting a patio down around the hot tub, only because the walk between it and the property was a bit ‘mucky’ in the wet.
Saying that tho, I could have bought flip flops!!
What I do want to add though is that myself and my 2 sons have never stayed in a better place and we will definitely be returning. Thank you so much for a wonderful week.

The steam train from Bishop Lydeard to Minehead - April 2018
10/10 We loved being so near to the steam trains, our stay in the railway carriage was just perfect. There was everything there that we could have wished for. To be greeted, on arrival, with a basket of goodies, milk in the fridge, beautiful free range eggs and lovely flowers, tea and coffee, everything had been thought of. We would love to go back again. A beautiful, relaxing holiday in the most gorgeous and adorable railway carriage. Thank you
We enjoyed Taunton and Minehead, Dunster was enjoyable too. A ride on the steam train was a must. - April 2018
10/10 We have never stayed anywhere more relaxing, we will be back. We stayed in your Treehouse for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it but the Railway Carriage is our number 1. Kate and Steve you are both lovely and go out of your way to provide a great service and ensure our holiday is perfect. Big THANK YOU
Steam Train is a must. Cheddar Gorge well worth the drive. Dunster and its castle. March 2018
10/10 Appreciated the milk, tea, coffee and sugar left for us along with a goodies basket. Other essentials like cling film, foil and dishwasher tablets etc were also very useful.
We have a dog so days out for us consist of long walks and there are plenty to choose from at the Railway Carriage. - March 2018
9/10 In the carriage we enjoyed the cleanliness and amount of thought that had gone into the facilities. Just 2 things could have improved - some kitchen roll and a tea cosy (although we realize not everyone uses a teapot these days). Oh, and more sun!
Dunster castle & grounds, train ride (obviously) - March 2018
10/10 The peace and quiet. The next time I will check the timetable for the steam railway as I was disappointed it was closed.
Dunster Castle - February 2018
10/10 Hot tub was lovely - treaty for it to be on even in Feb! Also lovely and warm when we arrived - thank you. Improvements would be difficult - save for making it less expensive?! But seriously it was a lovely weekend which felt very luxurious and novel. Thank you.
We went From Stogumber to Minehead on the steam train and had a lovely day out there and back on the last train.
Second day we went in the car to Minehead Butlin’s as it was a bit cold and miserable - day ticket meant we could use he pool and a lot of the fairground rides/shows etc. Back in time for last train past the carriage. - February 2018
10/10 There was a great field where we could exercise the dog in the village. It would be nice to have some info in the pack as we did not know where to go locally around the carriage. However the locals were very nice and extremely helpful.
Nice touch with the dogs bowls and clean up bags
Thank you for a most enjoyable stay.
Unfortunately the local line was not running so we will be back
Woolacombe beach - February 2018
10/10 The accommodation itself is fabulous — so much attention to detail and I would recommend. However, I did have 2 devastated little boys when they realised no steam trains would be running past. Whilst the description makes a minor mention of checking timetables the rest of the description is very focused on trains going past and I had taken the mention to just mean to check what time the trains would be running each day, not that they could not be running at all as was the case.
Please note my littlest lost one of his small black cars in or around the carriage - if it should be found I’d be grateful if it could be posted back to us.
Thanks - January 2018
Hot Tub was wonderful (this was a chill out weekend for us so hot tub was a main consideration)
Would definitely stay again in the summer time to see the steam trains.
Dunster Castle ; gardens and village - January 2018
10/10 Really well equipped place to stay, comfortable, clean, and loved the hot tub. Sheets and towels and dressing gowns were luxurious.
Very trivial thing but we weren't 100% sure on what to do with the recycling so just put it in carrier bags and put it in the big bin outside.
Fleet air arm museum good value and very interesting - January 2018
